Important Note
With this update, the processing of media files using H.265 codecs will be transitioned from the server to end devices. This change is intended to reduce unnecessary resource usage and enhance system efficiency. Surveillance Station will continue to support H.265 cameras with only minor changes, ensuring nearly the same user experience, while H.264 cameras and H.265 cameras on DVA models will remain unaffected. Learn more.
Motion detection using Surveillance Station’s algorithms will no longer be supported. The settings will automatically switch to using the camera’s built-in algorithm if available, or be disabled.
Continuing to take snapshots after events for email notifications will no longer be supported.
The mechanisms for generating event snapshots and thumbnails for the camera list, detection results, timeline preview, and more have been adjusted. The image update frequency may be affected, which can be adjusted in the camera settings. Note that this may impact camera performance.
The Live View Analytics app will no longer be supported starting from this version.
C2 Surveillance has been renamed to C2 Backup for Surveillance.
Sending notifications to Slack or Microsoft Teams requires Surveillance Station 9.2.1 or above due to adjustments in the service providers’ incoming webhook interface. Learn more

Compatibility & Installation
Surveillance Station 9.2.1 is only supported on DSM 7.2.2 or above.
Surveillance Video Extension (SVE) will be automatically installed with this update to enable viewing H.264 videos on Surveillance Station. Note that the SVE installation must be done over the Internet.

The restriction on the minimum interval for adding bookmarks in Action Rule has been removed for Face Recognition, Deep Video Analytics, and AI detection tasks by Synology Camera, including “People and vehicle detected,” “Intrusion detected,” and “Crowd detected.” Note that the accumulation of bookmarks could accelerate compared to previous rates.

Live View and Timeline have merged into Monitor Center. The existing functions, layouts, and settings will be completely migrated to the new platform.
Certain management features will no longer be supported on VisualStation and Surveillance Station Local Display on NVR1218 and NVR216.
Surveillance Station 9.0 does not support VS360HD models running firmware version 3.0.5 or below and VS240HD models.
The Log application has removed the rule setting page and will log all actions from now on.
Starting from DSM 7.1-42661, Surveillance Station 9.0 requires the DSM package Advanced Media Extensions (AME) to play AAC audio and HEVC (H.265) video format. In this update:
Cameras using AAC will be switched to other available audio formats automatically.
Cameras using HEVC (H.265) can no longer play videos, display thumbnails, or use Motion Detection via Surveillance Station without further settings.
Go to AME for setup if you wish to continue using AAC and HEVC (H.265).

Known Limitations

Due to the update of the recording mechanism, certain settings of Live View Alert, Action Rule Recording, Manual Recording, Advanced Continuous Recording, and Transactions will be modified:
The services will no longer save independent recordings.
The recordings of the services will no longer be shown in File Station by category (still available for downloaded in Surveillance Station).
The cameras will apply the highest archive setting and stream profile value available for the services.
Privacy Masking and watermarks are not supported on Android DS cam 3.5.1/iOS DS cam 5.4.1 and before.
